Endobronchial Kaposi’s Sarcoma

Authors:
Fredrik Eika, Samer Al-Saad

Abstract

A 55-year-old liver transplant recipient undergoing surveillance for post-transplant Kaposi’s sarcoma was found on bronchoscopy to have asymptomatic endobronchial lesions. Biopsy confirmed Kaposi’s sarcoma through histopathological analysis and human herpesvirus 8 staining. Notably, pulmonary symptoms were absent. The patient also exhibited organizing pneumonia, likely from everolimus toxicity. Treatment for Kaposi’s sarcoma continued, with a reduction in immunosuppression. The case emphasizes vigilance for Kaposi’s sarcoma in transplant patients, including rare endobronchial involvement.
