- A 41-Year-Old Man with Syncope, Ankle Swelling, and Abnormal Chest Imaging
Abstract
This case study presents a 41-year-old man with syncope, joint swelling, and abnormal chest imaging. Over several weeks, his symptoms evolved to include fever, rash, and inflammatory arthritis. Imaging revealed bilateral hilar lymphadenopathy and pulmonary nodules. The clinical features, particularly erythema nodosum, ankle periarthritis, and lymphadenopathy, supported a diagnosis of Löfgren’s syndrome a form of acute sarcoidosis. Treatment with a tapering course of prednisone led to symptom resolution and radiologic improvement. This case illustrates diagnostic reasoning strategies and emphasizes the importance of considering sarcoidosis in patients with systemic symptoms and lung findings.
