A Call for Antiracist Action
Abstract
This perspective article condemns White supremacist attacks on antiracist health equity efforts, exemplified by a neo-Nazi protest targeting Boston’s Brigham and Women’s Hospital. The authors advocate for race-conscious medicine through the Healing ARC framework (Acknowledgment, Redress, Closure), which addresses systemic racial health inequities by rejecting colorblind approaches. Highlighting disparities in cardiac care for Black and Latinx patients, the piece calls for institutional accountability, public defense of antiracist practitioners (e.g., Drs. Morse and Wispelwey), and implementation of intersectional interventions. The article underscores the persistent toll of structural racism on health outcomes, citing data on treatable mortality gaps, and urges health care leaders to denounce White supremacism and report progress toward equity.
