Heart Rhythm Interventions — Devil in the Details
Abstract
Atrial fibrillation is the most common cardiac arrhythmia encountered in clinical practice. Percutaneous catheter ablation for pulmonary-vein isolation has been shown to reduce arrhythmia recurrence, improve quality of life, and decrease health care resource use. Pulsed field ablation (PFA), a novel non-thermal method, offers targeted tissue destruction with potentially fewer complications. The SINGLE SHOT CHAMPION trial compared PFA with cryoballoon ablation, using implantable rhythm monitors for precise outcome assessment. While PFA showed greater freedom from arrhythmia recurrence, this did not translate to reduced atrial fibrillation burden or improved quality of life. The trial underscores the need for patient-centric outcomes and continuous monitoring in evaluating ablation efficacy."
