The Impact of Employee Training Programs on Knowledge, Attitudes, and Productivity in Occupational Health and Safety Practices at Weiply Company Limited

This study examines occupational health and safety practices within Weiply Company Limited, a manufacturing company in Sunyani, formerly known as Oti-Yeboah Complex Limited (OYCL). The company underwent significant operational changes from 2008 to 2010, impacting its strategy, structure, culture, technology, work processes, and the well-being of its workforce. The research employed a cross-sectional study design, collecting data from 600 employees representing various organizational levels, including management, line managers, and operational factory workers. A combination of stratified and simple random sampling techniques ensured a representative sample. Data was gathered through structured questionnaires with Likert scale questions, covering biographical data, attitudes toward occupational health and safety, knowledge levels, and actions taken to ensure safety. Data collection was done through face-to-face interviews to guarantee completeness. The collected data was analyzed using statistical software, and results were presented as frequency tables, charts, graphs, and statistical tests, including Pearson's correlation coefficient and logistic regression models. Key findings indicate a generally positive attitude toward occupational health and safety measures, with respondents recognizing their importance in achieving company targets, increasing productivity, and reducing absenteeism due to illness or injuries. However, areas were identified for improvement, such as ongoing safety training and risk assessment. These findings underscore the importance of continuing investment in occupational health and safety measures within the organization to ensure the well-being of employees and enhance overall productivity.
