Closed Gastroschisis
Abstract
A male neonate born at 37 weeks of gestation presented with closed gastroschisis, a rare condition where the abdominal wall defect seals, incarcerating the protruding bowel. Prenatal ultrasonography had diagnosed gastroschisis, but postnatal examination revealed jejunal atresia and colonic stenosis at the defect site, along with a perforated cecum. The infant underwent immediate laparotomy for bowel reduction and abdominal closure, followed by a second procedure to repair the atresia and stenosis. After transitioning to enteral nutrition, the infant was discharged at one month of age. This case highlights the complexities of managing closed gastroschisis and the importance of prompt surgical intervention for associated complications like intestinal atresia and perforation.
