Axillary Artery Occlusion after Transcatheter Aortic-Valve Replacement (TAVR)

Authors:

Abstract

An 84-year-old man developed sudden severe pain and weakness in his right arm 7 days after undergoing TAVR for aortic stenosis. Imaging revealed an occluded right axillary artery (Panel A) and thickened aortic valve leaflets (Panel B). Surgical thrombectomy successfully removed the thrombus, resolving symptoms. Post-procedure echocardiography showed increased transvalvular gradient (15 mm Hg vs. 8 mm Hg post-TAVR). Anticoagulation therapy replaced dual antiplatelet therapy post-thrombectomy. This case highlights a rare vascular complication of TAVR requiring prompt intervention.
