Rift Valley Fever — The Need for an Integrated Response
Abstract
This perspective details a multidisciplinary response to a Rift Valley fever (RVF) outbreak in Uganda, where 33 cases and 8 deaths occurred between February and September 2023. The authors advocate for an integrated health systems approach spanning community engagement, primary health centers, referral hospitals, and research institutions to improve diagnosis, care, and prevention. They emphasize coordination across One Health stakeholders to address diagnostic gaps, the need for emergency response teams, and localized research. The article calls for global support to empower affected regions in responding to neglected diseases such as RVF.
