Axillary Mass after Delivery
Abstract
A 26 year old woman presented with a painful, firm axillary mass that developed two days after a normal vaginal delivery. Physical examination revealed a well-circumscribed mass that released a white discharge when pressed, consistent with polymastia a benign condition involving accessory breast tissue along the embryonic mammary ridge. The mass became enlarged due to postpartum lactation. The differential diagnosis included lymphadenopathy and lipoma. The patient was reassured about the benign nature of the condition, and the importance of including accessory breast tissue in routine breast cancer screening was emphasized.
