Laryngeal Involvement in Disseminated Cryptococcosis
Abstract
A 46-year-old woman with multiple myeloma, undergoing treatment with immunosuppressive agents, presented with hoarseness and odynophagia. Endoscopy revealed a friable mass involving several laryngeal structures. Histopathology and culture confirmed Cryptococcus neoformans. Further investigations demonstrated disseminated cryptococcosis, including central nervous system involvement. After antifungal treatment, her symptoms resolved, and follow-up laryngoscopy showed no residual mass. Laryngeal cryptococcosis, although rare, highlights the risk of opportunistic fungal infections in immunocompromised individuals.
