Emphysematous Hepatitis
Abstract
An 82 year old man with diabetes, chronic pancreatitis, and biliary strictures presented with fever, confusion, and septic shock. Imaging revealed gas in the right hepatic lobe, consistent with emphysematous hepatitis a rare, life threatening liver infection. Despite broad spectrum antibiotics and ICU care, the patient died on day 8. Blood cultures identified Klebsiella pneumoniae as the causative agent. This case highlights the rapid progression and poor prognosis of emphysematous hepatitis, particularly in diabetic patients.
