Obesity in Pregnancy
Abstract
Obesity, the most common health problem in women of reproductive age, significantly increases risks for maternal complications (e.g., gestational diabetes, preeclampsia, cesarean delivery) and adverse fetal outcomes (e.g., congenital anomalies, macrosomia). This review synthesizes evidence on obesity-associated conditions, emphasizing the need for preconception weight management, tailored antenatal care (e.g., glycemic monitoring, thromboprophylaxis), and postpartum interventions to mitigate long-term metabolic risks. Key strategies include lifestyle modifications, bariatric surgery for eligible patients, and addressing weight bias in clinical care.
