Chronic Myeloid Leukemia with Hyperleukocytosis
Abstract
A 64-year-old woman presented with fatigue, fever, and cough, following displacement due to conflict. Clinical examination revealed lymphadenopathy, hepatosplenomegaly, and severe respiratory distress. Laboratory findings showed extreme leukocytosis with a white-cell count of 474,600 per cubic millimeter, and molecular testing confirmed the presence of the BCR-ABL1 fusion gene. A diagnosis of chronic myeloid leukemia with hyperleukocytosis was made. Despite supportive treatment, the unavailability of oncologic medications due to war conditions resulted in multiorgan failure and the patient’s death five days after admission
