Abortion Training in Medical Education — Implications of the Supreme Court’s Upcoming Decision
Abstract
This perspective article discusses the potential impact of the U.S. Supreme Court's decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization on abortion training in medical education. The authors, medical students pursuing obstetrics and gynecology, highlight how restrictive state laws and institutional policies could limit access to comprehensive reproductive health training. They emphasize the low competency rates among OB/GYN graduates in abortion procedures and the role of programs like the Ryan Residency Training Program in improving education. The article underscores the broader implications for patient care and advocates for preserving abortion training in medical curricula amid political challenges.
