Closed-Loop Therapy and Preservation of C-Peptide Secretion in Type 1 Diabetes
Abstract
This multicenter randomized trial investigated whether hybrid closed loop insulin therapy could preserve residual C peptide secretion in youths with new onset type 1 diabetes compared to standard insulin therapy over 24 months. Despite improved glycemic control in the closed loop group (mean HbA1c 1.0% lower at 24 months), no significant difference in C peptide preservation was observed between groups. The study highlights the challenges of halting beta cell decline but underscores the efficacy of closed loop systems in maintaining tighter glucose control.
