Left Atrial Thrombus
Abstract
A 47-year-old woman with no prior medical history presented with shortness of breath and was found to have pulmonary emboli and a left atrial thrombus secondary to severe rheumatic mitral valve stenosis. Imaging revealed a 2.7 cm mobile mass in the left atrium and bilateral pulmonary emboli. The patient underwent surgical removal of the thrombus, mitral valve replacement, and pulmonary thromboendarterectomies. Pathological examination confirmed an organized thrombus. She was discharged on lifelong anticoagulation.
