Mycoplasma-Induced Rash and Mucositis
Abstract
An 8-year-old girl presented with painful lip crusting, oral ulcers, genital pain, and a 10-day history of fever and cough. Examination revealed conjunctivitis, vesicular and targetoid skin lesions, oropharyngeal and vulvar ulcers, and pulmonary rales. Imaging showed bilateral lung infiltrates. Mycoplasma pneumoniae was confirmed via IgM and PCR tests. The patient was diagnosed with mycoplasma-induced rash and mucositis—a syndrome resembling Stevens-Johnson but with better prognosis. Supportive care and doxycycline led to full recovery.
