A 70-Year-Old Man with Covid-19, Respiratory Failure, and Rashes
Abstract
A 70-year-old kidney transplant recipient with a complex medical history including ANCA-associated vasculitis, coronary artery disease, diabetes, and recent immunosuppressive therapy was admitted with respiratory failure and multiple cutaneous lesions. He was diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 infection and pneumococcal bacteremia. During hospitalization, purpuric plaques and rashes developed. Imaging and biopsy revealed invasive fungal infection, and he was diagnosed with cutaneous mucormycosis caused by Rhizomucor miehei. Despite antifungal therapy with liposomal amphotericin B, the patient’s condition deteriorated, and palliative measures were initiated.
