Abstract

This preliminary report describes the outbreak of Zika virus disease (ZVD) in Colombia beginning in August 2015. Over 65,000 cases were reported by April 2016, including nearly 12,000 pregnant women. A subgroup analysis showed that women infected in the third trimester generally delivered infants without abnormalities. However, four microcephaly cases linked to congenital Zika infection were identified in infants of asymptomatic mothers. The report emphasizes ongoing surveillance to monitor outcomes among pregnant women with ZVD.
