Lipschütz’s Ulcer
Abstract
This clinical image report describes a 17-year-old girl who presented with deep, painful genital ulcers following a febrile illness with sore throat and malaise. Laboratory tests ruled out sexually transmitted infections, and serologic testing confirmed an acute Epstein Barr virus (EBV) infection. A diagnosis of Lipschütz’s Ulcer a rare, non sexually transmitted condition typically affecting adolescent girls was made. These ulcers are self limited and usually occur after viral illnesses. The patient was treated symptomatically with topical lidocaine and oral analgesics; the lesions resolved within six weeks.
