The Clinic That Cried Safe

Authors:
Leighton Schreyer, B.Sc.

Abstract

This perspective piece recounts the author's personal experience as a queer and trans individual seeking fertility preservation at a clinic that outwardly advertised itself as LGBTQ+ friendly with rainbow flags and gender affirming care. Despite the clinic's inclusive branding, the author encounters systemic challenges, including forms with binary gender options, misgendering by staff, and a lack of sensitivity toward their identity. The narrative highlights the dissonance between performative inclusivity and actual clinical practices, leaving the author feeling disillusioned and unsafe.
