Palmar Erythema of Pregnancy

Authors:
Kenneth Katz

Abstract

This case report describes a 33-year-old pregnant woman with gestational diabetes who developed asymptomatic, mottled palmar erythema during her second trimester. The condition, a benign physiologic vascular change of pregnancy, persisted despite topical glucocorticoid treatment. Characterized by blanching redness across both palms, palmar erythema of pregnancy typically resolves spontaneously within weeks postpartum, as seen in this patient (partial resolution at 1 week, complete by 2 months). The report highlights the self-limited nature of this condition and reassures that no intervention is required beyond monitoring.
