A Black Abortion Provider’s Perspective on Post-Roe America

Authors:
Bria Peacock

Abstract

This personal perspective by Dr. Bria Peacock, a Black gynecologist, examines the disproportionate impact of abortion restrictions on Black women in the U.S. through historical and contemporary lenses. Drawing parallels between the reproductive exploitation of Black women during slavery and modern day systemic inequities, the author challenges the "Black genocide" narrative used by anti abortion activists. She highlights how Black women who face the highest maternal mortality rates will bear the brunt of Roe v. Wade's overturning, emphasizing the importance of reproductive autonomy. The piece underscores the revolutionary act of Black abortion providers supporting Black patients and calls for unapologetic advocacy for reproductive freedom.
