Nutrition in Medicine - A New Review Article Series
Abstract
This editorial introduces a new review article series focused on nutrition in medicine, addressing the critical role of diet in global health and disease prevention. Suboptimal diets contribute to 11 million deaths annually, linked to conditions like hypertension, diabetes, and cancer. Despite this, nutrition education in medical curricula remains inadequate, with fewer than 1% of licensing exam questions covering the topic. The series aims to bridge knowledge gaps by exploring fundamental and emerging concepts, including precision nutrition, the gut microbiome, and patient-centered dietary strategies. It emphasizes the need for multidisciplinary approaches and aligns with national initiatives like the 2022 National Strategy on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health. The goal is to equip clinicians with evidence-based tools to integrate nutrition into preventive and therapeutic care.
